The Renowned Musician Calls On Public Help to Get Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to propel a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign hopes to provide aid to people in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian culture and creativity.
An Opportunity for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn’t, festive releases are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Dignity and Freedom
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would choose to perish with honor than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Track's Background and Contributing Musicians
The single was laid down in the wake of a solidarity show held in September. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was cut from the show due to scheduling overruns.
The notable list of musicians contributing to Lullaby includes a group of well-known figures from the music world. All participated in the September show, which successfully generated a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a team of producers and composers. The track showcases a mix of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The team running the campaign have emphasized that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a representative said. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Obviously, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The situation in the area was described as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of property reportedly levelled or seriously harmed.
“Against that backdrop, a couple of million is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is first of all making this cause better known and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The track is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a full recording of the charity concert will be made available for streaming on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
