The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Wrong Critical Role Song

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing personal histories for characters including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.

All in all, the opening looks stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by artist the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a great sentimental option, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.

But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening seems to be among these.

This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or wish to prepare to learn about the characters of the second series, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
