The Latest Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable adjustments:
- Every squad includes just eight real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides more options for players seeking different methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.
Player Responses: Anger to Praise
"People want real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
