Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Leading Abusive Songs About Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United only half a year following starting insulting songs directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a deal joining the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's lengthy time at Elland Road finished by mutual consent this past summer.

Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds was to lead insulting chants about Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion celebrations in April. Currently, the one-cap England international will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Past Conflict Between the Striker and Wilder

The pair had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League last season and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion while Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

All appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, urgently requiring of a boost up front and Bamford looking to resurrect his career.

The song about Wilder gained traction this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder stated back then: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no problem at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Challenges

Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds last season however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
