Outrage as Renowned South African DJ Killed in the City of Johannesburg.
A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation battling entrenched crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old entertainer was approached by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before escaping on foot.
The motive of the shooting remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.
Details of the Attack
Police revealed that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a location near the Carlton Centre.
He had spent several hours at the site overseeing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, as per local media.
"It is alleged the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement stated.
CCTV footage showed a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what appeared to be a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before running away.
The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the attack.
Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the location.

Authorities have requested eyewitnesses who may have seen the suspects to come forward.
"Evidence suggests they walked a long distance after the attack, and police have been attempting to locate them to determine their destination," remarked an authority figure.

His family member, Nicole Stock, said the loved ones are reeling to come to terms with the loss.
"I am in shock. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"We know he was a voice for many people. He addressed issues courageously about subjects not many people were ready to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."
