Provisional Refugee Protection

Individuals approved for protection in the UK will have permission to stay in the country on a provisional basis, with their case evaluated at two-and-a-half-year intervals.

This signifies people could be repatriated to their native land if it is considered "stable".

This approach mirrors the method in that European nation, where refugees get 24-month visas and must submit new applications when they terminate.

The government claims it has already started assisting people to repatriate to Syria by choice, following the toppling of the current administration.

It will now investigate forced returns to Syria and other nations where people have not routinely been removed to in recent times.

Refugees will also need to be settled in the UK for 20 years before they can request settled status - up from the present half-decade.

At the same time, the government will introduce a new "employment and education" visa route, and urge refugees to find employment or begin education in order to transition to this pathway and qualify for residency more quickly.

Solely individuals on this employment and education pathway will be able to petition for family members to join them in the UK.

Human Rights Law Overhaul

Government officials also intends to end the process of allowing multiple appeals in protection claims and substituting it with a single, consolidated appeal where each basis must be presented simultaneously.
