One two-month journey around the Land Down Under is being halted in the wake of the tragic passing of an senior woman who was stranded by the ship on a distant island.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the group for a pause. The vessel left without her and came back later that day after the personnel realised the woman was missing.

An extensive hunt discovered her person the next day.

Investigative bodies are examining the incident, alongside investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company stated that guests and crew on the ship were told that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that passengers would be given a full refund, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also published an revised communication, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Captain" banning any additional guests from boarding the vessel.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the ship in Cairns upon its coming back.

Sequence of Incidents

The vessel first departed the Australian port on October 24th, and was just two days into the journey at the point of the 80-year-old's passing. The remote island was the initial destination on the journey.

Passengers on the vessel - who usually pay large sums of currency to take part in the cruise - were transported there for a day trip with the possibility of walking or snorkelling.

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "stunned and saddened that the liner left the location after an planned excursion without my mum".

Via official communication, the Head affirmed that the organization was "cooperating fully with authorities to assist their examination".

He said that the company was "deeply sorry that this has transpired" and had provided its total backing to the loved ones.

The vessel caters for up to 120 passengers with 46 staff, according to company details. It was specially constructed to access isolated regions of Australia's shoreline and is equipped with "small boats" - compact vessels used to transport travelers on shore trips.

Incidents like this are rare, and passenger vessels have procedures to record which travelers are getting on or disembarking, according to industry experts.

"Leaving covertly or [back] on the ship really isn't an option," a specialist stated.

Vessel operators regard these procedures with great importance and have "sophisticated systems in place to avoid such incidents from occurring," the authority added.

"This is most likely a shocking - and tragic - single occurrence."
