Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future following another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” Slot stated.

“It's important to change things and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “Through standard discussions I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”

Familiar Problems and Squad Reaction

Slot lamented recurring failings from his team in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.

“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club all my life.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell like this with performances like these.”

Jones stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we’re always going to battle.”

“We’re going to try to help the side back to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
