A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The animal, provided by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
